The photo says it all

Congratulations to Des Moines Register photographer Mary Chind, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for breaking news photography.

With a keen eye and a unique vantage point, Chind was able to snap the award-winning photo which showed construction worker Jason Oglesbee dangling from a crane, reaching down to rescue a woman from the Des Moines River.

Splashed across the front page of the Register and picked up by the Associated Press, the powerful image undoubtedly caught the attention of thousands, if not millions, of newspaper and magazine readers around the globe.

In today’s social media arena that is overwhelmed with smartphone snapshots and twitpics, Chind’s work is a reminder that professional journalism is still alive, well and very much appreciated.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  In this case the photo says it all.
